Hi, I've got a CD Macbook and the main board went on it and was replaced under warranty. as i needed some data off the HDD i removed it before i handed the unit in for repair. While it was in for repair i managed to damage to the HDD beyond repair and so went online and bought another one. Now my problem is this - when i try and install it using the OS X install disks the installation program before it even loads properly comes up with an error saying setup cannot continue on this computer.
I've checked online and it seems that this message usually comes up when the installations discs don't match the machine they are being installed on - even though these are the discs i got with the machine. I phoned up Apple but they were no help as it was a software issue and i was outside my 90 days support period. I tried explaining that the wrong discs had been bundled with my Mac but they didn't want to hear. Is there anything else i could try to get these install dvd's working or do i have to shell out for a retail OS X?
Any help appreciated.
p.s. i tried my bro's MBP's install DVD's but they didnt work either coming up with the same error message.

I've seen it happen that a main logic board was replaced with a newer version of the MLB, which then of course required a newer version of Mac OS X to run.
Apple will usually include a new batch of Install discs and a letter of explanation when they return the machine.
Ask Apple if this was the case and if so, ask for the disks if you didn't receive them.

Agreed with analogika -- If the logic board was replaced you'll need the matching install discs. If you're unwilling to pay for phone incident support outside your complementary 90 days, then going to a Apple Store Genius Bar is your best bet. You can always purchase AppleCare within the initial year of purchase, and it includes 3 years of phone support and hardware protection.
Importantly, the retail OS X 10.4 Tiger will NOT run on or boot any Intel Macs.
I encourage you to make an appointment at your local Genius Bar so they can sort out the details and get you back on the right track.

Hi, thanks, I've got it sorted now, i ended up going back to where the logic board was replaced and they gave me a new set of install cd's which worked fine.
