I was working away on my white macbook last night when all of a sudden it froze, so as you do i thought i better restart it. When i restarted it was taking ages to load, so i left it for and then came back to it about 10 mins later and the white start up screen was still there. So i pressed the space key thinking that it might had gone to sleep or something. And then i started to get a flashing folder come up on the screen with a question mark on it. Or course since i've only had my mac a year i wonder wtf was going on, so i checked it up in the apple manual.

Apparently it was some kind of system error and i needed to reboot the mac from the disc, but my sims disc was inside the mac and the disc won't eject. So i've taken it to a repair shop that deals with macs in my area and he tried a pin hole thing on it and it didn't work. So i've left it there and it's gonna be looked at by a proper enginer tomorrow, unfortunetly i won't get it back before i go away.

But after hearing what has happened do you think i will need a new ard drive for the mac? or will it just need a reboot?

Cos it seems to me, like it was just the mac version of the 'windows blue screen of death'.

Hold the mouse button down as you restart your MB and the disk should pop out.

However as it's in there and you need to boot from it, just hold the C key as you start up the MacBook, then run a hardware test?

no see cos the sims disc is inside the mac atm and i couldn't get it out. Also the macbook is currently at the repair shop. So does this mean that i will not need a new Hard drive?

Who knows about the Hard drive? That's something that a hardware test and disk utility process can help you analyse, but first you need to boot from your system disk to access those processes.

Sooo, when you get the MB back, power it on whilst holding down the mouse button next to your track pad and your optical drive will eject the Sims disk. Then put your OS X disk in the drive and power down/restart. Finally hold the C key when you power on/just after the Apple chime and your MB should start to boot from the disk in your optical drive. Then run a hardware test and verify your hard disk.
