So, my computer fell off the desk and now the screen is a thread ( wire ) away from being completely seperated from the body. I have an Ibook G4 1.4gHz, 1GB, superdrive, 14inch. I have apple care and when I called the apple line they said it would cost me atleast 430 big ones to have it fixed... What should I do - I can't even close the computer to send it in. If I take it to an Apple store to have it evaluted it will cost me atleast 60 bucks because we do not have a store around here. Should I sell the parts... and buy a macbook?

Thanks...

Can you post a couple pics so we can see what the damage is like? You may be able to fix it yourself.
For all the trash I talk, I sure own a lot of Macs...

Yes.
You're going to end up spending at least half the cost of a refurb macbook getting that going again.

Sell it for parts and buy a Macbook. Apple Intel land is a great place.

If the screen isn't smashed and the logic board isn't damaged, you may be able to repair it by replacing the cables, I assume one has broken because you say there's only one, there should be two cables for the screen I think.

I don't think it'd function very well as a laptop afterwards but you could turn it into a desktop.

Presumably the video out is still working, so you could hook it up a cheap monitor and use it as a desktop. Have you got anything you could hook it up just to verify?

You can find pretty cheap flat panel monitors on dealmac.com or you can watch the weekend sales. Get one that has both VGA and DVI
