I have a PowerBook G4 and I am looking for a solution to my note-taking in school. I was wondering if anyone can recommend some sort of a pen or other writing device that would allow me to take (and save) notes in class directly on my powerpoint slides or images provided by the professor. I need something that will be easy to use so that I can take notes quickly during class. The smoother it works, the better. Can anyone recommend anything?

i unno about any powerpoint note taking apps, but i used voodoopad all throughout college and LOVED it. the links feature is one of the greatest things for note taking, along with the lil scribble pad that can also play an important role.

I don't think he's talking about note-apps (although almost anything will work better than powerpoint) - he's talking about some kind of hardware handwriting system, no?

Yes, I would like something to be able to take notes directly on my powerpoint slides and images. For instance, when our professor gives out his notes in powerpoint form, rather than having to print them off and take notes by hand on paper, I'd like to be able to take hand-written notes directly on the slide. Perhaps a digital pen or something of that sort is what I'm looking for. I'm really not sure. Any advice?

I'd recommend printing the Powerpoint slides to a pdf and then use any of the pdf marking programs available to mark them up. Versiontracker is your friend. As for directly drawing on them instead of using a mouse or trackpad, you would probably need a graphics tablet, which obviously doesn't make sense in a class environment. I can't think of any other way to do this other than with a mouse or trackpad that would work in a class environment.
