The computer reads the disc, but it will not eject. I've tried rebooting with the mouse button down. It tries to eject, but it can't.

Anything I can do besides take it to the store?

Try resetting the PRAM or the PMU

OK, we got it out by yanking it out using a very small, thin pair of needlenosed pliers. The eject mechanism was pushing the disk far enough out for us to be able to do that, thank goodness. It was the disc causing the problem instead of it being a drive issue, because we tested other DVDs and CDs and it didn't happen, but when we tried the same disc it got stuck again.

Thanks for the suggestions.

No. Put one in there and you'll probably never see it again. You'd also be likely to need a new drive.

how craps that? Something needs to be done about that, my Wii can take both 8cm and regular (12 cm is it?) discs into its slot drive no problem

Do you want a drive that's thin and light, or one that handles a tiny fraction of the available discs on the market? Apple went with covering the vast majority of the market with a very thin and light drive. If you want or need to use nonstandard discs, get an external, tray-loading drive. They're not terribly expensive and you don't have to worry about how big or heavy they are.

Give the MBP a shake on the side of the disc drive (a quick jar with the the palm of your hand works). Hold the MBP down while doing it and hit the Eject key and it should pop right out.

this is what I have to do from time to time. I take an extra step though and power down my MBP and "burp" it gently and hold it at a 45º angle when I turn it back on and the MBP pops it out. Not problem enough to send it in since I have an external disk reader, but in most cases I can see it getting annoying if it happens with each disk.
