So I'm looking to buy an external display for using with my Macbook when I have it at home. I've been looking at these Viewsonic LCD's because I use one at college and they're nice but they're also cheap. Also I want to use it as a replacement for my games consoles when I'm not using it for my Macbook.

I'm leaning most toward either the 24 inch or 28 inch VX models.

I'm not really good at the various HD gaming stuff but I think with these monitors I could connect my Macbook via VGA/DVI (btw which is better? Is there any difference?), my PS3 via HDMI and my Xbox 360 via component HD cables? Is that correct?

Any input would be most appreciated.

DVI is a digital connection and the best you can use. HDMI uses the same signaling as DVI except it includes audio channels. AFAIK, no computer monitor uses HDMI yet, only TVs. If you want to hook to a DVI monitor, you need the mini-DVI to DVI adaptor. To connect to an HDMI TV, you need the same adaptor plus a DVI to HDMI adaptor.
