My brother, thinking he knows it all, says to me "You can't buy 3rd party RAM for a mac because it voids your warranty" and I said, "If it breaks, i can put the old RAM back in and Apple will never know". Him being a complete muppet, won't believe me, so I am searching for proof that I am correct.

Please, anyone with experience of AppleCare and RAM post in this forum, and I'd like it if a moderator posted aswell, just to make it clear to my brother that what I am saying is true.

Thanks in advance.

Have him prove himself wrong. Point him to this Apple info page.
You may install memory (RAM, VRAM), and other customer-installable parts without voiding your Apple warranty.
He now owes you a beer.

You can install RAM and a new hard drive in any Mac without voiding the warranty.

As long as you don't break anything in the process, you're good to go (warranty-wise, that is)

Haha that showed him! And now he feels like a muppet and I can act all smug about it.
