Next update won't be until sometime Q1 of next year at the earliest.

Leopard will not be a problem.

Yes.

There maybe a hardware upgrade when 10.5 Leopard comes out in October but I'm not sure about that. Since the current MBP came out pretty recently I don't think any upgrades would be that much better if there are any. If you need a computer now I don't think it would be worth waiting.

I'm assuming upgrading to Leopard would be pretty easy. On my laptop I upgraded from 10.2 to 10.3 without really any problems that I can remember. It was a lot easier than Windows if I remember correctly. My desktop came with 10.4 but I'm assuming that upgrading to 10.3 to 10.4 would be just as easy. Many people will not be buying a new computer when Leopard comes out so you will not be alone.

edited: Rumor beat me to the post. I guess there won't be an update until Q1.

Next updates will be Q1 (45nm CPUs [maybe quads], marginal upgrades to everything else) and Q4 (quad core CPUs) of 2008.
