I have had my Macbook since March( 5 months, maybe less). I take it with me to work about once a week, always in a padded case inside another sturdy leather bag. I have never dropped it, and I am always careful with it. Today I noticed a 5 1/2 inch hairline crack along the front edge, origionating on the left side of the computer. The left side is also a tiny bit seperated and not the same as the right. I looked more closely and also found a two inch crack next to the CD insertion hole, and two -centimeter long cracks on the left side of the computer also! I pointed this out to my daughter who got her laptop in December ( 8 mos ago). She also has a crack on the front edge of her computer, and she never takes hers out of the house. I can't really work without my computer, but I definately don't want to see bits of my computer start breaking off, like I've seen in some of the photos. I hope Mac does right by it's customers and starts recognizing this problem and fixing it promptly.

I think I read that it's a recognized problem by Apple and if you take it to the Apple store (within warranty) they'll replace the casing for you or something free of charge. I may be wrong, but I definitely remember reading this.

Its not a "recognized" problem but if you go the Apple store and nicely ask the genius they'll probably replace it for you. They might even have the part in stock, in which case it will take approximately 15 minutes for them to repair. I had this done with my old MacBook and it was as good as new!

Yeah, take it to an Apple store. If you're lucky, they'll do it while you're there, I had to come back the next day, but hey, it was still free!
