I recently bought a macbook pro for parts off ebay, and there was a red dot on the superdrive, just trying to figure out if this is a water indicator of some sort (like on cell phones), like maybe this thing was water damaged? It looks like just a dot with a red permanent marker... I don't have a way of testing the drive at the moment, kind of scared to plug it into something if it's damaged...

Drive says "Super 857CA" on it, manufactured nov. 2006. It appears to be a factory recertified unit.

Thanks in advance!

every once in a while I see something funny inside these machines... this is one of those things.

there's no water damage indicator... I'm about 95% sure.. and if it was... those are usually paper circles, not a permanent marker looking mark.

It's probably nothing. I've seen marker type stuff before.

Could be a quality control sticker. Sometimes drive manufacturers have their QC people put a pen mark on a little sticker to show they've checked the article. That could be what you're looking at.
