I shall shortly be getting the 2.4 GHz MBP with the standard 2GB RAM that I intend on upgrading to 4 GB and was wondering which of the following to choose. It'ld be nice if you could tell me which ones would be a good deal with no performance hit ... and also which one is actually the best of the lot.

I will have to go for 2x2B DIMMs... here are the options -

1. Transcend 2GB @$97.99
Newegg.com - Transcend 2GB 200-Pin DDR2 SO-DIMM DDR2 667 (PC2 5300) Notebook Memory - Retail

2. Corsair 2GB @ $124.99
Newegg.com - CORSAIR ValueSelect 2GB 200-Pin DDR2 SO-DIMM DDR2 667 (PC2 5300) Notebook Memory - Retail

3. G.Skill 2x2GB @ 234.99 (i.e. price for each 2 GB is ~ $117)
Newegg.com - G.SKILL 4GB (2 x 2GB) 200-Pin DDR2 SO-DIMM DDR2 667 (PC2 5300) Dual Channel Kit Notebook Memory - Retail

4. Crucial 2GB @ $ 139.99
Newegg.com - Crucial 2GB 200-Pin DDR2 SO-DIMM DDR2 667 (PC2 5300) Notebook Memory - Retail

5. Mushkin 2x2GB @ $260 (i.e. 2GB @ $130)
Newegg.com - mushkin 2GB DDR2 667 (PC2 5300) Memory for Apple Notebook Model 971559A - Retail

6. Supertalent 2GB @ $119.48
eWiz.com STT DDR2-667 SODIMM 2GB/128x8 Micron Chip Notebook Memory

7. Samsung (Atleast I think it is?) 2GB @ 139.98
MA940G/A(1/2 kit), KTA-MB667/2G, 2GB (1x2GB) MacBook Pro DDR2-667 Memory Module

Opinions would be really welcome...
thanks

In order to upgrade past 2gb, you will need to buy 2 2gb sticks. OWC has a 4gb set for $269. They also offer a $50 rebate for the original ram.
I like my water with hops, malt, hops, yeast, and hops.

right! ... i know that in order to upgrade to 4 gb .. i'll have to take 2x2GB ... (which basically renders the 2x1GB i get with my notebook a waste.... or mabe i can sell it )

i put the cost up for a single 2GB since most of them are not coming in pairs... (just for the sake of a comparitive cost analysis)

Personally I only buy from Crucial or OWC I'm of the opinion that you get what you pay for and cutting corners on such an expensive piece of equipment is kind of silly.

I'm not familiar with those companies but in general Crucial and OWC use quality memory and have an excellent reputation.

They also have lifetime guarantees on their memory.
