4G in 1st gen MBP c2duo?

has anyone tried 2x2G (4G total) in a first gen macbook pro core 2 duo? the max is listed as 3G, but i wonder if it can handle 4G.

(also, i just installed the new hitachi travelstar 2GB 7200RPM drive and it has made a BIG difference).

Yes it works, but you can only use ~3.1GB of it due to limitations of the chipset.

well that's no fun.

so i guess that chipset has been upgraded in the newer MBPs. my plan is to hold out for another 6-12 months until a major revision happens.

Next big revision will be 1Q08: 45nm chips (marginal cache/clockrate improvement) and marginal updates for the rest of the system.
