Hello everybody...

I have two questions for all you mac genius out there!!

1. I have just gotten my MacBook about a month ago and my memory capacity already says that I have used 58.29 out of 74.21 GB. How can this be?? I don't have a huge amount of pictures or music and I have only downloaded limwire and microsoft office. I tried downloading a bunch of fire sharing/torrent things in the beginning, but none worked so i dragged them to the trash. Could this be still taking up memory? If so, how could i clear this out totally? I just really can't believe that almost all my memory is gone.

2. I just moved and am working with a netgear wireless router. Will this stop ichat from working? I have heard different things. Does anyone know how to get it working.

3. Also, I have trouble opening applications that i download because it says that it cannot find applications to open it with. But they are things like stuffit expander. I can't seem to get anything to donwload and open on this computer.

I am new to Mac and appreciate any help or tips i can get!!!

1. Empty the trash (click on the desktop, then click "Finder" on the menu bar, then click "Empty Trash" while holding the "alt" key on the keyboard.
2. No, it won't stop iChat from working. See here for more info.
3. Download StuffIT Expander.

And what you are referring to as "memory" is hard disk space, not memory. A hard disk stores all your pictures and files. Memory is used by the computer to temporarily store information while it is a running. Memory is emptied when the machine is turned off. Hard drive storage is more permanent, maintaining the storage even when the machine is turned off.

go to versiontracker.com and download "WhatSize". It's an application that will take an inventory of the HD and tell you where your HD space went.

Sounds like some of your limewire stuff didn't get deleted (oops?) Either that or your music folder bulked up?

Memory is usually referred to as RAM.
