Hi guys,

As you probably know the Apple spec-lists aren't always the whole truth (for example I have 3GB of RAM running perfectly well in the MacBook I'm typing this post with), so I'm wondering what the largest hard drive any of you guys know of working in an iBook G4 is?

I'm trying to bring my fiancee's iBook up to date (she's increasingly jealous of my MacBook, and I don't blame her) and so have got it running Tiger and now require a RAM and HD upgrade. My MacBook has the 250GB WD Scorpio and it's an excellent drive, one of the best I have ever used, therefore I'm looking to put a Scorpio in the iBook. I have heard of people fitting Scorpios (PATA) in an iBook G4 but I just want to make sure that it can handle the full 160GB capacity I am looking at. Unless of course you guys know of anyone manufacturing PATA drives larger than 160GB?

Any help is greatly appreciated.

As long as it's PATA and 9.5 mm high, any drive should work, and you'd be able to access the full capacity of the drive.

Hi Steve,

Thanks for the reply. I know it should, I'm just a bit cautious and wanted to hear from anybody that's done it already, with a 160GB (or larger).

Also, what were the performance gains like, comparing the 5400 to the original 4200, and obviously with the extra space (and less full HD).
