I have a client who needed two of his computers formatted and have a clean install of 10.4 they included a 12" PowerBook and a Power Mac G4... He bought a WD MyBook 380GB External drive for me to backup his data...

After all was said and done I cannot get the drive to mount via firewire (it will via USB)... we tried taking back the drive and getting a new one... that didn't work...

We tried a MAxtor external drive that has worked before via firewire... still no luck... kinda weird that both machines are having problems with the firewire...

Any ideas?

Try resetting the power management on both machines. You'll have to visit the Apple Support pages to find out how for each specific model.

I am going to give the instructions to the customer... and hope for the best... I hope the PMU reset fixes it... I just find it so odd that the Firewire on both machines are nehaving this way.
