Hi All,
My Father has a 12" Powerbook. He came to me asking him to help with a CD problem: he couldn't get a disc to go in, something was blocking it.
Usually this means a disc is already in there, but there wasn't. A little time with a flashlight and a bent paper clip, and I found something small blocking the CD slot: a screw! I believe it was lodged somehow between the aluminum outer shell and the actual CD drive case. A little work with the paper clip, and I got it out <phew>. Unfortunately, something else was moving around in there, and I almost got it out, but then it fell deeper inside and now isn't moving any more <arrgh>. It sounded smaller and lighter than the screw, and I fear it was a tiny washer.
So, where the heck did these come from? Are 12" Powerbooks prone to screws coming loose _inside_ the machine? This machine has been lovingly cared for, no bumps or drops.
I've sent him to my friendly neighborhood tech. Personally, I'm thinking it'd be better to replace the whole CD drive rather than attempt to find the missing piece. I'd _really_ love to figure out where that screw came from, but I don't have the small hex key necessary to dismantle the machine (I've been into the guts of many a Mac in my time :-)
Strange...
Chas
