Just drag it from the Applications folder to the Trash. There can sometimes be other files from the application in other places, but these are usually very small and are caches and such. Its a good idea to keep them so if you ever install the application again, all your settings are saved.

You can use AppZapper to remove all traces of an app.

You don't need to fully delete apps. The vast majority of users just put them in the trash and call it a day, with no real detrimental effects.

If you wish to get rid of those other small files associated with the app, you can quickly search them using spotlight and once listed, just delete them.

speaking of reamoving apps....I know how to delete "normal apps" i.e. drag to the trash, but how do you remove or uninstall thoes apps that appear on the system preferences at the bottom ? I have a bunch that wont work with Intel Mac I guess...

I would have recommended AppCleaner (have a look at Mac, Palm, and Windows Software Updates and Downloads - VersionTracker) - but there were so many good hints here in the thread.
Actually i never had trouble by just putting programs to the trash and have a short look in Application Support and Preferences Folders if there is any trash left. Since there is no such thing as a "DLL"-File or whatever that slows down the system, Mac OS X doesn´t suffer too much from the leftovers of old programs...
