This problem started a few days ago.

I've been using my MBP normally (average settings), however I've noticed a sudden decrease in the duration of the battery.
These few days I have to re-charge my MBP after about 1 1/2 hours of use, and then it charges back up much quicker than usual.

The battery bar also tells me I only have around 1 hour and 50 mins after every re-charge.

Any opinions on this??

How many cycles are on the battery?

When was the last time you calibrated the battery?

Cycle count reads 195.

I calibrated the battery about 2 months ago.

Bear in mind I've had this MBP for just over a year.

Slightly low, but not atypical; 65% into the battery life and 75% of the life remaining.

yes it all happened suddenly?
is it possible to contact apple for a replacement?

The problem is I already had this MBP just over a year, would I have to pay for a new one?

Apple claims their notebook batteries should retain 80% of the capacity during the first 300 cycles. You can check the number of cycles and your capacity in System Profiler > Hardware > Power > Battery Information.

Calibrate the battery and reset SMC and PRAM. If that doesn't help you probably have a bad battery. If you're under warranty or if you have AppleCare they will replace your battery for free.

thanks for the advice guys.

I've followed Simon's advice but the battery life is still only around 2 hours.

I've rang up apple today and they said they'll sent me a replacement.
So I advice if anybody out there whos having the same problem and is within the warranty period, then they should contact apple for a battery replacement.

2 hours is what I usually get for my MBP (1.2 years old); haven't recalibrate the battery for about six months.

Have either of you monitored the CPU activity at all during your normal use? It is quite conceivable that you have something sucking up CPU cycles when it shouldn't be (especially t500 with their "It also just started getting really hot..." statement). You might not have any problems with your batteries at all.

I've checked my battery yesterday after a full charge and it just decreased it's life again to an hour.
So I have no idea what is wrong with it...
