I thought my ibook had a software problem BUT i was adjusting the angle of the screen when i noticed i could connect to my wireless network. I then did some tests and have discovered that i CAN connect to my wireless network but only if the ibook screen is at a certain angle. If i open it a little less than 90 degrees, it will work. any more than that, the signal goes dead..also if the laptop is not open enough, there will be no signal either. it is only at a few angles that are a little less then 90 degrees where i can receive a signal. is this a common problem with an easy fix?

I don't know if it's common, but it doesn't sound like it has an easy fix. It's likely a broken antenna cable running form the Airport card to the two antennae in the lid.

You might try iFixit: iPod, iBook, & PowerBook Parts and Accessories for instructions on removal of the antenna wires. (I did a fast search but didn't find anything, but I didn't look long either)

You might try repositioning the antennas on your router. If they are vertical, move one or both of them to horizontal, or vise versa.

Have you noticed this problem on multiple wireless networks? Only if this angle issue shows up on multiple networks, would I suspect the antenna in the MacBook.

Does this also happen when you get very close to the router?
