Replacing The Ethernet Port?

The other day one of my friends dropped their MacBook and the ethernet port broke. The MacBook still turns on, but they can't use the ethernet. Is there a company that would repair this for a reasonable price? I've checked up on some other places and it seems as if they would need to get a whole logic board replacement costing around $600. By the way, their MacBook is out-of-warranty.
Thanks,
Mason

Nope, you've got to buy a new logic board for $$$.
They may be better off selling the Macbook for parts and buying a refurb.

USB adapters are notoriously flakey because of driver problems. Why not connect through Airport?

Airport is a good idea, but, presumably, the USB option will be less flakey than the OPs broken ethernet?

There's no express card in the MacBook, just as there have never been PC card slots in Apple's consumer laptops. Unless I missed something big, that is.

I don't believe the MacBooks (not MacBook Pro) have an expresscard slot.

You're right. Sorry, I misread it, and thought you had a MBP. I don't know what's a good USB adapter - but Chabig is right - airport would be better.
