I installed the Sims 2 Pet's expansion pack on my daughter's macbook but I cannot figure out how to run it? I get a message saying "Need more Memory Space" . There is plenty of space left?

I am familiar with PC Windows but need help with Mac applications.

I somehow installed Sims 2 a few weeks back and works fine.

I would appreciate any help.

Thanks,

Bob

How much hard drive space do you have left? How much memory does the MacBook have?

Will it install after you reboot the computer, and are you making sure you're not trying to install it to a disk image but your hard drive instead?

Yep - I suspect you are trying to install it on the disk image, not dragging it to the applications folder.

Thats how you install things on OS X unless it has an installer.

Yes.
Double click the disk image, and you should get an icon, with a message saying to drag it to the applications folder. Unless it has a more complex installer, in which case it will give you instructions when you double click on it.

OK. Talk me through EXACTLY what you are doing here. You have a disc, that this came on right? When you put the disc in the drive, an icon appears on the desktop. Double click it - tell me what you see.

When I double click I see Pets Installer, Read Me and Aspyr Game Agent

When I click on Pets Installer I get message to continue which installs on hard drive. After it installs I get message "The software was sucessfully installed" I click close and the same 3 Icons are still there.

OK, so it tells you it's been installed - now, if you go to Applications, can you find it there and launch it? You can close the window you just described - you don't need it any more.

Alternatively, is this something that is available within the Sims, or is it a stand-alone program?

The only icon in Applications is Pets Installer. I think because I tried before to drag in their and install from applications. there is no Pets Icon.

news and troubleshooting information.

(1) Introduction

Create the perfect pet for your Sims to train, play
with, and love throughout a lifetime. Pick everything
from their paws to their personality. Choose from
dozens of popular dog and cat breeds like Schnauzer
and Siamese. Or create a unique cat or dog by
modifying their features and body type. Your Sims can
teach their pets tricks, take them for a romp in the
park to meet other furry friends, or buy them toys,
beds, and much more. But pets have minds of their
own-so expect the unexpected!

(2) System Requirements

Requires the full version of The Sims 2 for Mac OS X
to play

Operating System: Mac OS X 10.3.9 or later
CPU Processor: PowerPC G4/G5 or Intel Chipset
CPU Speed: 1.3GHz or faster
Memory: 256 MB or higher (512 MB recommended)
Hard Disk Space: 2GB free disk space
Video Card (ATI): Radeon 9000
Video Card (NVidia): GeForce FX5200
Video Memory (VRAM): 32 MB or higher (64 MB
recommended)
Media Required: CD Drive

SUPPORTED VIDEO CHIPSETS:
ATI Radeon: 9000, 9200, 9550, 9600, 9700, 9800, X600,
X850, X1600
nVidia Geforce: FX 5200, 6600, 6800, 7800

NOTICE: Intel integrated video chipsets are not
supported. Apple original CPUs only, CPU upgrades not
supported.

(i) Recommended System Requirements

- Operating System: Mac OS X 10.4
- Memory: 512 MB
- Video Memory (VRAM): 64 MB

(3) Backing Up Your Data

The Sims 2 Pets will create saved games in a different
format from your currently installed games. We
recommend that you back up your current saved games
before installing The Sims 2 Pets. If you think you
will want to go back to previous versions of The Sims
2, then you can restore these saved versions in order
to play The Sims 2 base game.

Here's how:

1. Find your saved games on your computer. By
default, Sims 2 saved games are kept in "home
folder\Documents\EA Games\The Sims 2".
2. Copy these files and folders to a safe location on
your computer.
3. If you uninstall The Sims 2 Pets and wish to play
a previous Sims 2 product, such as The Sims 2 base
game, just copy these backed up user data files back
into the same locations listed above.

(4) Installation Instructions

To install The Sims 2 Pets Expansion Pack,
double-click the Installer icon on the game disc and
follow the on-screen instructions. When the
installation is complete, your existing Sims 2
installation will be updated to include the Pets
Expansion Pack. Play The Sims 2 by double-clicking
your Sims 2 icon on your hard disk.

If the Installer is unable to locate your existing
Sims 2 installation, you will not be able to install
Pets. If you have recently installed The Sims 2 for
the first time, it may be necessary to launch the game
at least once before using the Pets Installer.

(5) Uninstallation Instructions

To uninstall The Sims 2 and all expansion packs, drag
the following to the trash:
"The Sims 2" folder which contains the game
applications
"home folder\Documents\EA Games\The Sims 2" folder
"home
folder\Library\Preferences\com.aspyr.TheSims2.plis t"
file
"home
folder\Library\Preferences\com.aspyr.TheSims2BodyS hop.plist"
file
"home
folder\Library\Preferences\com.aspyr.TheSims2Packa geInstaller.plist"
file

OK, so you can delete that, you've already installed it.
I'm beginning to think that this is not a stand-alone program - you've tried launching the Sims, and seeing whether it gives you extra options, right?

Right - it says right there that you should launch the Sims as usual - there is no other program - what happens when you do that?

When I launch the Sims - there is no other option to run the Pets

This weekend I might try The Apple Store Genious Bar for their assistance.

Thanks again for all of your help!

I don't know the game, but are you sure there is an option to play pets - I think it might just let you make pets etc.

My daughter has the same game for Windows and it worked great. It seems to be problematic with the Mac Book.

Thanks

My daughter tried to run the Sims Pets today and it worked!

I cannot explain why but maybe after it was shut down and rebooted today?

Thanks again for all of your help!

what exactly is the saved game called? It is not obvious from looking in this folder. I know that i have savd the game and it is ridiculous that there is no documentation in the manual or in the game itself with regards to how to restart a saved game. i have never experienced this with any other game i have ever played.
