Just a minor observation that after only 9 months of use, the trackpad on my black Macbook has a very noticeable wear spot smack dab in the middle of the pad. Running my finger over it, you can definitely feel a very slight indentation on the spot that probably receives the most finger traffic.

The only reason that this caught my attention was that compared to my old 12" Powerbook which, after 4 years of heavy use, was in nearly perfect condition, I'm wondering what this Macbook will look like after even 2 years of use?

Or is the wear and tear simply the textured surfacing that has been applied to the trackpad?

I feel the same actually, mine was bought in February and looks like a beater in comparison to my 2005 PowerBook and more on a par with my 2001 PowerBook...

Glad it's not just me that feels this, thought I was going mad.

Would this track-pad issue be covered under Applecare? I am a little worried about my Macbook as well, since I am on it 24/7.

I wonder if the wear spot is more pronounced because of the black clor; is the trackpad black?

I would think that a shiny spot on a matte black surface would stand out more than a shiny spot on a white surface. My MacBook's tradkpad doesn't look any worse than my old iBook did before I sold it after 15 months.

I have the same problem on my white MB. I'm not too worried about it.

It's a matter of the plastic and how much wear you put on it. My iBook went in about 6 months, but it's not a problem. As long as the thing works, I'm fine with it.

I had the same problem but I recently had the whole area replaced because of the palmrest discoloration. I think it is normal for a trackpad to wear like that but IMO the MacBook has worn faster than any other laptop I have owned.
