My PB 17” has an area, full left side, about 1/3’d that has gone blank. Part of this area is white and part black.. Sometimes, especially when it starts up this area works but is fuzzy then once fully started goes blank. Once and a while it will stay fussy for a short time and I can actually move things from this area and or see enough to use it in this area. However, mostly I must act quickly and if a window is in this area at start-up, if I drag it over to the working area before it goes blank I can operate. The mouse goes into the area, actualy under the blank part, the logic board thinks it’s working but I can not do anything due to the blank.

O.K first off, hopfully this thread does not get deleted or somthin cause my motivation is not about apples responsibility it is about repair..

I've read hundreds and hundreds of stuff regarding 17" PB display problems, and as it does seem to be a occurrence that many have or are experiencing, I do not or have not read one single person who's resolved it..

I read about somebody who said it is "Probably" the LVDS cable which runs threw the hinged area of display and can break or become worn, possibly the connections are loose too, but that person had never tried to fix his.. So..

What I want to know is who's fixed this problem..?? Who's located it, isolated it as to just exactly what component has gone faulty..

Is it a loose cable, faulty cable that's worn out? Is it the actual screen? How about the display card, the inverter board?? It is in my case obviously not the display because my screen can, (at rare times) change appearance in the bad area, to a fuzzy blur when I move the Mouse arrow across it. Mostly when it's still cold.. If my screen can change in its problem areas it is not the display it is another component.. So.. which component is it??

Yanking apart the display is not an easy task; it's glued here and there and was not designed to be opened, rather simply replaced. However, it can be disassembled, with care. I hate the thought of taking this apart just to lean it's not within the display, but another area..

i just plain want to know what exactly is the trouble, so i can conduct the repair myself and move on..

To anybody who’s taken on the responsibility of repairing theirs, and can lend assistance, Thanks..

I think this is a known issue with some screens - call Apple, and they should take care of it.

I said fuzzy for lack of using technical term, actually what is happening is the screen is presenting blocks of broken pixels that are missing full color.. my first impression would be a card problem as the screen shows it is capable of displaying all colors from time to time. .

But from the stories it seems to be a known problem.. peeb.. you ought to read an entire message before replying..

The question remains.. has anybody localized this problem?? Has anybody who is not covered with Apple repair figured this out and repaired it??

When a screen displays it is capable of showing all colors it is not a problem that would point to a screen issue in as much of as a component.. could be wires leading to, or the small board that’s plugged into the screen.. Anything between the video card and screen..
