Hi folks,

I'm seriously considering buying a 15" Powerbook from a friend of mine. He had Apple Care and just recently had the logic board and fan replaced. It's in beautiful condition, seems to run really well and the price is good too.

So, is the logic board/fan being replaced a sign of the PB being way past it's best? Or should I consider that a positive?

Any advice would be much appreciated!

Thanks!

Ok but generally speaking, is a replacement logic board a negative or positive?

I'd say it's a good thing. It was replaced because it was bad, presumably. It doesn't necessarily mean the new one does not have problems, but they should at least test for the obvious stuff. My MacBook went through 3 logic boards in 6 months. Finally got a non-dud.

It's a 12" PB, 867Mhz, 60Gig HD, 640RAM, Superdrive etc. No dead pixels or marks. We haven't talked price yet.

The 12s are going for a-relative-lot on eBay right now, I suspect because there is no current offering to compete with the attractively small form factor of a pro-line laptop. However, unless the price is very good, I wouldn't bother with anything less than a 1.5 GHz G4. Your money might be better spent toward a MacBook, which I found was a significant upgrade from the PowerBook 12".

EDIT: Wait, is it 12" or 15"?
