but want to use Aperture, surf the web, do typical business applications and also download and edit HD movies...

Will I notice any difference between the 2.2Ghz Macbook pro and the 2.4Ghz MacBook pro. I don't know anything about vram, so I'm not sure if Aperture or movie editing programs need the 256 v. the 128.

Nothing you'd notice for that kind of work. Get the 2.2 GHz and same some money, unless it's not a concern.

Would the answer be any different if I use an external monitor? I'm thinking of getting a 23" ACD. Is there any reason why the 128 wouldn't work as well as the 256 vram if I use an external, or both the external and notebook monitors. Sorry, but I'm pretty much clueless about these things. Just want it all to work and work well.

Unless you're going to be hooking it up to an external display, the 2.2 should be fine. It's what I have, and I'm glad I saved $500 by going with this model. The 128MB vram is enough for Aperture on a 1440x900 screen.

I'm predicting the next revision of MacBook Pros will have 256MB vram as the minimum though as 128MB is starting to be a bit small for 3d graphics and high end games.

Edit: caught your reply. If you're going to be using both displays, you might have to upgrade to the 2.4 model to avoid lag. The 2.2 should be enough for a single display up to 1920x1200 resolution I'd say.
