So today I was on my Macbook and then it started making a clicking sound and it started lagging and then just froze. So I restarted it and when the gray screen came up and then a folder with a question mark in it. Any help will be appreciated of what is happening. Anyone else have this happen to them

Ouch. Sounds (literally) like your hard drive. The clicking is bad.

Boot from your OS X install/restore disc and run Disk Utility. Choose the Repair Disk function. If you're lucky, it may be able to diagnose and repair your hard drive.

Also, just to be sure, boot from the macbook's hardware test disc to check the rest of your hardware for errors.

Let us know if disk utility reports anything that it can't fix.

Sounds like the HDD went out. Terminal clicking, as I typically call it work. If you try booting up again and hear some grinding from the HDD - try putting your ear by it - as well as the clicking, it's dead.

Yea, the HDD is shot. Did you do anything to it of late that could've caused any damage? Is the laptop under warranty still? You might be able to get it replaced.

hold down D when you boot the mac, with your install DVD in the drive and it'll boot into diagnosis mode.
