Here's a mystery for you: I was in Salt Lake City last week on business, and somehow I left my MBP AC adaptor there. Don't ask me how because I am usually *extremely* careful and anal about remembering all my computer stuff whenever I travel. I didn't get too upset about it because I thought that I'd easily be able to buy one of the newer, smaller 85W adaptors (I had the larger 85W adaptor with my 2.33 GHz machine).
If you check the Apple store online, it says a 4-6 week lead time on an 85 W adaptor. So I called around to local stores and visited at least 3 Fry's and nobody has any of these adaptors. I was getting desperate, so if I could get a MacBook 60W adaptor, at least I'd be able to use my machine at work today, even if I couldn't charge the battery. No dice. These aren't available anywhere either.
The guy at the Apple retail store thought this was very weird, and needless to say, so did I. I was so desperate (all the most recent versions of my documents are on this machine that now had a dead battery) that I asked a friend to borrow his. Thankfully, he had a spare.
My question to you all is if you are seeing this in other Apple retail stores around the country. I'm in the San Jose, CA area (Apple's home turf), and none of the local stores have any adaptors. If you know of a store that has them in stock, post here and I'll order from their online page. I can't borrow my friend's adaptor forever.
If anybody has heard anything about why there is a nonexistent inventory of such an important accessory (remember Apple hasn't licensed MagSafe, so it's their adaptor or nothing), I'd be interested to hear what you've heard.
