Would it be bad to use two batteries with my iBook G4? Both are calibrated to my laptop. I want the extra juice when on the road. So I should be able to shut it down when one gets low and swap in the other with no problems, right?

If this is something you do often the larger powerbooks can hot swap batteries by putting them to sleep and then quickly switching the batteries. Not sure if the intel based powerbooks can do this but the PPC ones did.

You can also plug your ibook into AC and then switch the batteries.

SSharon is absolutely right, but please note that it's the Powerbooks that are hot-swappable, not the iBooks.

Also, batteries last longer when they are used regularly. If you have more than one battery, you may want to consider rotating batteries every week or so, even if you're not travelling, to keep them both in action.

Ah, thanks! I'll start swapping them out then.
