After I did a 1.1 firmware update on my MacBook Core2Duo, I getting this faint little click every 10 seconds or so from my hard drive.

Anyway to downgrade to version 1.0 of the firmware?

Sounds like your harddrive is about to take a plunge into death. I'd back up to be safe. Also there is a 1.2 update I believe. Try that and see if the problem disappears.

Actually this firmware update is for the early macbooks. Apple - Support - Downloads - MacBook SMC Firmware Update 1.1

So don't update if you don't have pre-late 2006 model macbook. :-)

I'm getting confused. This is the update that was installed vis software update:

2007-09-29 21:40:16 +0200: Installed "MacBook EFI Firmware Update" (1.1)

what does it have to do with smc?

Yea I did notice this. Software update simply blankets all macbooks and I really think it is perhaps a slip-up on Apple or something. I'm not familiar with the specifics of this. See if you can rollback to 1.0...meaning continue the search. If I stumble over it I'll post it.

It doesn't seem to be any type of vital update for those who haven't yet.
