I was at the coffee shop the other day at my university killing some time before class and I noticed an oily smudge on my case as I was closing it. I get some napkins and wiped it and when I got home I noticed the napkins caused a big blotch of scratches. I'm not too anal about fine scratches, there were fine scratches all over the casing of my MacBook before that I didn't care about at all, but when I get these fine scratches now in a big cluster together it looks pretty ugly. It looks like the texture of hemp under lighting.

Yeah you guys could see it coming, is there anyway to remove these scratches? I've searched about it and am considering iCleaner? Or perhaps just a platic polisher(Meguire's)? Any feedback is greatly appreciated! Someone from MacForums told me a CD scratch remover did the trick as well. I'm just a little paranoid with these abbrasive products and I don't wanna apply something and then regret it 2 seconds later (it has happened to me way too many times).

Newer Technology Clean & Polish Kit (NEWPOLISH) at OWC

No, I don't work for OWC, just saw this on their website the other day when I was looking for RAM. It you do try it let me know how it works. I have an ibook that is being worked on. If it comes back in working order I may want to get some of it for myself.

Yeah, I'd love to know if this stuff works also. I wanted to get some for my MacBook..

For future reference, any napkins or paper towels are a big no no for cleaning this type of stuff. They are made with little thin slices of plastic, which are what cause all the scratches. I used to use paper towels to clean my glasses and I couldn't figure out why they kept getting so scratched up, my eye doctor finally explained it to me. They make cloths to clean this type of stuff, can't remember what there called off hand though.

if you are really good, you could do a meticulous wet sand job and then airbrush on some new gelcoat or acrylic layer or send it to an auto detailer and hope they won't melt something in the process...
