What does it mean when I attempt to access certain programs and they are dimmed out?
I am unable to click on them. Particularly Iphoto, I cannot choose to upload from that program. I don't see a folder for it either.
This isn't the only program. Here's another issue I'm having: In Itunes, I am unable to access the burn option. I burned once after importing a song from garageband successfully. Is it that it songs from my ipod are in an altogether different/inaccessible format? how can i import songs from my ipod onto my computer/or copy them?
i'm new to this, had a mac before but it's different than my old g-4....
any help you can offer would be greatly appreciated

Try creating another User Account in System Preferences and test that out to see if you have the same problems with accessing apps. This will tell us if it's a user issue or a system wide issue.

Do you mean you double-click on them and nothing happens?
I don't understand that bold sentence.

You cannot burn songs to a CD-R directly from your iPod. You can burn songs you purchased from the iTunes Music Store to a CD-R though.
You cannot copy music from a iPod onto a Mac with Apple software. You'll need a 3rd party application to do that, Why/how do you have songs on your iPod that are not on your Mac?

In iPhoto, if you want to upload to, say, facebook, choose the photo from within the iPhoto app, export it to your desktop and upload from there. The library in finder is no longer accessible to users. Apple did this on purpose to keep users from mucking about in there and corrupting their photos. Do anything and everything to/with your photos from within the app.
