My year-old (almost) Macbook Pro has started doing this in the past month or so. When the LCD turns on after being asleep for a few hours, the left side of the screen is significantly brighter than the right side. And tonight i noticed now the ride side is starting to dim while the middle stays nice and bright. After a few minutes the screen evens out. It's almost as if the light is having to warm up... But I thought it was one long fluorescent tube, so I'm kind of at a loss.

Has anyone else ever had this problem? For the record, the screen worked beautifully for the first year. (Well, 10 months)

Go to an Apple store, show them then uneven lighting and how it changes with time, and ask them to fix it under warranty.

...and when you do that, the first thing they're going to point you to is this article:

Fluorescent Lamp LCDs require a warm-up period

Apple considers this behavior "normal," and will only consider doing something about it if the screen never evens out, pretty much.

I had a similar problem...took it into a different apple store after 3 tries sending it off to the repair depot, and they're going to fix it on-site... Apparently they acknowledged it as a problem, not a normal occurrence...

My MacBook Pro does this too - I've just been overlooking it. Although, I can't wait until the next big revision of the MacBook Pros so I can get an LED backlit screen. It really is an annoying issue, but I'm almost certain that if I were to waste my time waiting at the Genius Bar they would just turn me away after say it is 'within spec.' Be sure to post what you experience if you pursue this.
