Apple menu -> About this Mac -> More info

to open System Profiler. If you have any MBP other than the first revision (early 2006), you have 802.11n.

802.1X (Port Based Network Access Control) is totally unrelated to 802.11a/b/g/n.

What software do you have that requires a specific 802.11 standard?
What kind of firmware updates do you want for your optical drive? The official ones from the company that made it, or the third party ones to enable things like region unlocking and higher speeds? You'll have to tell us which drive model you have from ibook_steve's directions.

i,m at my girlfriend place Ferienwohnung an der Costa del Sol, im Hinterland von Nerja, Malaga and here we don,t have but slow internet so i will be updating in next future, thx mr. dwell its big knowledge what you have, i guess, you know what is all this about; i bougtht an MBP to apple refurb. store and they did send me a very dirty one with a dead pixel that i fortunatly discover and then send back so affter i boutght the same model again and because what happened i now like to check the perfect condition and installed components i think i boutht not to be cheated now a days even from apple. Art this momment i have found still no error despite a 3mm. open case in the rigtht front side when closed wich i dont think is a return issue? so again thx and excuse my poor english but we in spain don,t have such good forums us you do.
