I've borked my macbook tiger install beyond anything I can do to fix it. I'm gonna take it to the apple store tomorow. should I remove my third party ram?

also, if I want to backup my applications with all (most?) preferences intact, should I backup my Application Support folder in /Library and in /Users/Library ?

yes, backup everything you can. They'll no doubt wipe it clean during their troubleshooting and repair process.

Umm, yeah, good luck getting a decent amount of help from an Apple store on BLACK FRIDAY!

Which is to say that the store will be full to overflowing with customers, not that the folks behind the Genius Bar will be unhelpful. They may simply never see you for the crowd!

And yes, I'd remove the third party RAM for a number of reasons. First, if there's any possibility that the RAM is involved in the problem, one of the standard practices I've heard of is that they just don't put third party RAM back in when they return your machine.

Why not just reinstall tiger on your own?

be sure to ask them to do a full install. all they do is install the basics. no fonts, printer drivers ect ect. they're only allowed one hard drive per genius and 15-20 minutes per customer. so ask for everything instead of a non-driver installed install
