Hello everyone. I have a 2.0 Core Duo Black Macbook. I almost always use it plugged in as a desktop and it works great. When I am not plugged in however, it will randomly turn off, usually within the first couple minutes (especially if I move it while on.) This battery shows full or almost full power as well. I searched a bunch on here and elsewhere and found a lot about the Random Shutdown problem with Macbooks, however it seems that, that is a different problem then what I am facing. I even tried to install that firmware update that is supposed to fix the Random Shutdown problem, but the installer said my machine was not applicable.

I took it to the Genius Bar months back and they told me the hardware was fine and that there was a problem with my system, something having to do with the computer sleeping. I was told I simply needed to do a reinstall. To make a long story short I didn't get to reformat until this past week (being that this is my main machine). The reformat didn't help...

Any ideas?

Wasn't much of a genius, I guess. It could be a problem with the SMC. See here:

So I tried resetting the SMC. I followed the steps, rebooted my machine, everything seemed fine. I disconnected the plug and ran it off the battery while it was on my desk to test it out. It worked fine for about 10min and then I decided to move to another seat, so I picked up my macbook, and as soon as I lifted it, it shutdown. I double checked the battery guage to see if it just wasn't holding the charge..but it showed full power.

AGHHH!!! Anyone have any other ideas?

(other info: I was moving when I bought this computer and I was financially strapped big time so I wasn't able to get apple care

And another update: After it randomly shutdown I restarted it and it started up fine. I used it wirelessly on my lap for about 15min and then I shut it to put it to sleep. I walked over to my desk and placed it down. As I placed it down I noticed the pulsating "sleep" light went out. It had turned off again. I restarted it. This time the mouse button on my trackpad stopped working. I plugged my external hard drive and keyboard/mouse back in and I was prompted with the, "Your computer needs to restart, please hold down the power buttom etc" screen.

This is kind of freaking out because I do ALOT of my work off of this machine and I cant afford to replace it.
