I replaced a hard drive that failed on g3 imac 800 14" with a combo drive for a friend at work. I installed 10.4.11 and everything worked.
The only problem was that whoever he had take apart the computer to repair the hard drive didn't log where the screws went so I had to figure it out. While putting the last three hex screws in the bottom plate of the computer I mistakenly put a long one in the middle when it should have been a short one. Sooooo, the screw dented the orange cdrom cable that connects to the logic board. The computer works fine but combo drive doesn't show up in the system profiler.
I purchased an used orange cdrom cable from ebay and it looks good(correct model number), but my drive still doesn't show up.
*My question is could the long screw that dented the cable have caused the combo drive to fail or did I possibly get another defective cable. The ebay seller says it came from a working computer etc...
Thanks.
