Hi,

I want to be able to turn my laptop screen off and just use my external screen. I'm currently doing this by putting my MacBook to sleep by closing the lid and waking the machine up with my USB keyboard. When it wakes it only uses the external screen and the MacBook can be opened without its screen turned on.

Is there any way to do this without putting the machine to sleep? I just want a toggle to be able to turn the laptop screen on and off. I'm aware I can turn the brightness all the way down but this doesn't actually turn it off so OS X still thinks it is using the extended desktop.

btw, its a new Black MacBook.

I think if you close the lid and then move the keyboard - it'll just use the main monitor.

Or if you power it up, and then shut the lid - which is what I do.

Hrmmm so there is no way to do this without putting it to sleep first?! I've been using Macs for years (this is my first laptop though) and this seems like a very un-maclike way to do it.

Anyone come across a third party app to do this?
