Hi All

I'm wondering it is possible to upgrade this unit to the backlit keyboard.

Here's what I have:

PowerBook G4 15" Aluminum, 1.33 Ghz (no backlit keyboard)

I recall that when this was first introduced, Apple's online store sold this unit with a standard (non backlit) keyboard. However, an upgrade option to get the backlit keyboard was available for $US 69.00.

On that note, I'm going to assume that this PowerBook can be upgraded to a backlit keyboard. What will I need to get? Do I need to get the left and right light sensor? And then get the backlit keyboard? Will the backlit keyboard from the 1.5 and 1.67 Ghz units be compatible? Is there more to this?

Thanks in advanced.

For backlight you need:
Left Ambient Light Sensor;
Right Ambient Light Sensor;
Backlit Keyboard;
Backlit Top case;

Sensors from the 1.0/1.25, 1.5/1.33s should work, left sensor from the 1.67/1.5 will also work. Sensors from the 1.67 Dual layer will not. Neither will the right sensor from a 1.5/1.67.

Top case and keyboard must be from a 1.0/1.25/1.33/1.5. Later ones will not work. You might not actually need the keyboard. Pry off one of your keys and hold it up to the light. If you can see through the characters on it, you only need the top case.

I swapped all the appropriate parts into one of these (a 1.5/1.33) and while the controls came up, the backlight didn't work. I did have to swap the backlight rather than the top case though. Maybe I killed it.
MacBook 2.0GHz CD; MacBook Pro 15" 2.4GHz Late '08; PowerMac G4 MDD Dual 1GHz; 3x Xserve G4 1GHz; Mac Mini 2GHz; Big pile of broken and working bits;

Seems like a lot of work for a feature that, while cool, isn't all that helpful.
