I have recently installed leopard onto my MBP. To install leopard I had to do numerous tasks in order for my hard drive to be detected. I had to mount the image on using my MB. The cd could not be read by my MBP. Although it had installed leopard onto my MBP I was unable to format my HD, it did not give me an option to erase. It was disabled it seemed.

I am keen on getting my hard drive formatted as it is running extremely slow and want to do a fresh start. Have any of you run into this problem or know how I can about resolving this. I was thinking about buying a new HD for the laptop but I do not know how to install it on the MBP. Also I called the apple store and in order for me to get an estimate, I have to make an appointment with an apple genious, I find that quite frustrating.

Any feedback would help. I honestly do not know what is wrong with my hard drive. I bought this MBP used and have had this for about 8 months now. I just want to format my laptop but am unable to.

My MBP specs

1.83 CD, 15", 2 gigs of ram.

Boot from the leopard DVD and use disk utility on the DVD (it's under tools IIRC) to reformat the hard drive, then you can go ahead with your reinstall.

I have tried using disk utility, it was unable to read my HD. I had found this manual code online, that I put into terminal in order for my HD to be displayed in disk utility.

If Disk Utility doesn't see the drive, something is seriously wrong, hopefully with just a cable. You can open your machine and check or change the drive using the guides at iFixit: iPod, iBook, & PowerBook Parts and Accessories.
