I've noticed this now on two different 2.4 GHz MBPs and 10.5.1. Regardless of the settings in the Energy Saver preference panel the backlighting is shut off after 5 minutes of idle time. I've trashed com.apple.PowerManagement.plist and reset the SMC to no avail. The backlight shutdown can't be changed/prevented. Is anybody else experiencing this?

I am. Apparently it's a known bug and Apple is working on it, according to other postings I've seen.

As bugs go, pretty harmless, fortunately.

That would be an annoying bug. There are utilities that jiggle the pointer at regular intervals in order to prevent the system from being idle.

It is harmless indeed. OTOH I also wonder how a bug like that can creep in, remain there throughout beta testing and actually make it not only into the GM, but also past the first decimal update. Oh well.
