Last night, out of nowhere, my iBook decided to kernel panic. I came back to my room after being gone for a while and the crash text was on the screen. I rebooted, only to have it do the "restart your computer" screen when the login screen came up. Another reboot, and things seemed to work okay, except that the mouse and keyboard wouldn't work. I have them plugged into my iBook through a really old Belkin USB stacking hub. I unplugged the hub's power source, and the mouse and keyboard started working. This morning I got another kernel panic, and the same thing happened with the mouse and keyboard, except now the keyboard won't work through the hub at all.
Here's the panic text:

Do I need to get a new hub? Keyboard? Computer?

Sounds like the hub if you only experience it when the hub is connected.

Well the hub is connected both times, the difference is whether or not it's externally powered, and either way I have problems.

Okay, now they're happening all the time, and nothing at all is plugged into the computer. I'll restart it from locking up and it will panic before fully starting up.

I believe it's a problem with Leopard. I booted from the install DVD and told it to repair permissions, but I got several messages like "/System/Library/somethingsomething is damaged and was not repaired"
Better software than hardware. I guess I can try to reinstall Leopard.

...as the installer kernel panics, too.

After an archive and install of Leopard...more kernel panics.
I suppose I could downgrade to Tiger and see if that fixes my problem. If I do that, will I still be able to restore all of my documents and stuff from Time Machine?

I installed 10.4.6 and when the install finished and went to restart, it crashed. I rebooted, and it worked just fine. I used it for a couple hours without issue. Then I installed all of the updates and on the last Java update the network timed out and it fail. I restarted, but it took about 10 or 15 minutes before the Apple came up at all, then the spinny thing froze. After a couple hard restarts and zapping the PRAM, it worked again. Could a new hard drive maybe fix this?
