Does anyone know tha max size of 2.5 inch ATA HD a 2006 iBook will take? Will a Western Digital Scorpio 250GB HD be supported?

Mactracker was unable to provide any help on this.

Are you sure that drive is ATA? I think the highest capacity that that computer will take is 160.

all iBooks use ATA100 (aka "IDE") 2.5" Hard Drives, which currently top out at 160GB - don't expect them to get any bigger. The SATA drives get much bigger.

I'd pick up a 7200rpm 120GB Seagate or Hitachi, you'll find a huge speed boost over the stock drive. Unless an extra 40GB is worth the drop to 5400rpm.

I just put an ATA in my powerbook, and went the 5400/160 route over the 7200/120 - the extra 40gb was worth it to me - loading large files is not a bottleneck for my workflow. The extra space does give a small, but noticeable speed bump though.

Yes, there is a 250GB ATA-6 laptop hard drive (WD Scorpio, just like the OP said), and if 160GB works then 250 should also.

Mduell, i thank you for your help, that is what i assumed but wanted some backup before i buy a new HD.
