I've had my MacBook for about a year, and a couple of days ago, the volume stopped working. Meaning, there's no sound at all. If I hit the buttons for the volume to go up or down, the visual still appears, but without any sound. If anyone has any suggestions, I would be glad to hear them

PS: there's no red light on in the mic jack

Best bet is just to reset/zap PRAM. Hold down command, option, p, and r at startup (right before you hear the chime), then continue to hold until you hear the chime a second time.
