Hi! I need advice on buying a mbp 15". I know the update is on the way, but I'm having a hard time convincing the folks to get me something new. Which means I have a limited budget so I'll settle for earlier revisions. I'd like to know how much it would cost after the 15th. I'll be using it for computer engineering courses. I've read most of the threads I've searched here and some on other sites. Thanks.

I've seen the older rev mbp's in the refurbs for like $1699. Hopefully the current ones will be this price too when they release the new ones.

Yeah... wait about a day or so after Macworld. No one in the world KNOWS for sure what the prices will be on the current line of MBP's until the new line is released. But for my money.. every time I go and buy a new mac.. I look at the refurbs first.

Just one question. Where would I find the refurbs? I'll be in the States by the 15th but I only have a week there. So immediate availability will be important.

Wait until January 16th and go to Apple's education store online. Any refurbs can also be found online, including at the Apple store (Apple intentionally makes the refurbs somewhat hard to find). Also check Small Dog Electronics - New and Refurbished Apple / Mac Computers.

Note that any Core 2 Duo MBP will serve you well if you add max RAM (now cheap Find the latest Performance Upgrades, Firewire and USB Hard Drives, SATA, Memory, Laptop Battery, and more at OWC). If money is tight don't hesitate to get an older C2D MBP from a reputable source. I would avoid Macbooks and Core 1 Duo versions.
