So i've read a few threads on here, and I'm still a little confused on how much memory my mac will take.
First off I have a mac book 2.0ghz 667mhz Intel Core 2 Duo
I read the post about how to tell by simon, the only thing is the box say's I can only upgrade to two gigs. dose that mean I can actually Upgrade to three gigs if I put in four? Cause I believe I have the Calistoga chipset, but really am not sure.
also will it really make that much of a difference if I put 3gigs in as opposed to two.
I run programs like photoshop and illustrator. thanks.

Go to the Apple.com/support and put in your serial number. They will tell you which model you have.
If it is MacBook Late 2007 then 4GB, otherwise 2GB.

It's just like I said in the sticky thread: Since you have a C2D with a 667 MHz FSB, you can use up to 3GB of RAM. So you can install either 1GB+2GB or 2GB+2GB (in which case the last GB will not be usable).

3GB vs. 2GB will certainly be better if you use RAM hungry apps. I consider 2GB to be pretty much the bare minimum with Leopard. PS and Illustrator definitely qualify as RAM hungry. You can check out yourself how much your system has to page out to disk when it runs out of RAM.
Activity Monitor > System Memory > Page outs
I this number gets big you need more RAM.

Unfortunately that is not correct. Please take a look at this thread for a thorough explanation.
The 2GB RAM limit is only for CD MBs. C2D MBs take either 3GB or 4GB.
