i'm new to macs so pardon the ignorance ...
bought 2 1gb sticks of ram for my wife's PB g4 1.25 to take it from 512mb to 2gb. i bought Transcend modules from newegg - several people who commented said that they worked fine in their g4's. so i figured i was ok.
i tried to install them today and when i turned it on, i heard the "bong!" but then i never saw the grey screen. but the caps lock would turn on/off. i swapped the modules and got it to boot. i opened up a bunch of apps and it worked fine. i closed the lid but the light on the front never started to pulse. opened it and the screen was black and it was unresponsive. I also tried each individually and had the same problems - bong, but no screen. so i gave up and put the old ones back in.
any recommendations? - are these both bad, is the MB bad or are these just incompatible?
thanks in advance and sorry if this is a dupe

Forgot to mention - the new RAM is the same speed as the old RAM - ddr333, cas 2.5
Also the DVD drive spins up, i can't tell if the harddrive does - it's too quiet.

First, welcome to the forums!
If you get to the boot chime (bong), that usually indicates the memory is OK. You could try running the Apple hardware test from your system disks (hold d with the disk in the drive) to test the RAM. What happens when you have one old stick in along with one of the new sticks?

i was going to give it another go once my wife finishes using it tonight. i was going to try resetting the PRAM and see if that did anything. if i doesn't then i'll try to boot to a CD, but i don't get the grey screen so there i little hope of booting from a cd.
i mixed it and it did the same thing - chime and nothing but a black screen.
it booted once with 1gb and once with 2gb, other than that nothing. odd. origional ram is perfect.

thanks for the welcome, btw. didn't say in the previous post.
i tried every combination of the new ram and the old ram and i can't get it to work properly. if i do get it to book, my first test has been to try to get it to sleep. but with any of the new ram, it won't - the backlight turns off but i can still see an image on the screen - but it's locked up. caps-lock turns on/off but otherwise i just had to turn it off. i've also reset both the PRAM and PMU.
at this point, i'm just going to assume that this ram is incompatible or something and RMA it for a different brand.
is there anything else that i can try?
