I ve hooked up a 19 inch monitor to my macbook and want to get another screen - Can a macbook drive two screens? If so how? Do I need to buy some sort of adapter?
This would be really useful to me!
Thanks all for advice.

I don't think it can drive two external monitors simultaneously.
I didn't research all Macbooks, just what's on Apple's page right now for the current model:
Extended desktop and video mirroring: Simultaneously supports full native resolution on the built-in display and up to 1920 by 1200 pixels on an external display, both at millions of colors
Mini-DVI port
DVI output using mini-DVI to DVI adapter (sold separately)
VGA output using mini-DVI to VGA adapter (sold separately)
Composite and S-video output using mini-DVI to video adapter (sold separately)

Except the MacBook will only drive 1920 x 1050 on an external monitor, right?
So the only resolutions available over DVI will be
1600 x 480 (2x 800 x 480) - 60Hz
1600 x 600 (2x 800 x 600) - 60, 75, 85Hz
which is pretty close to useless.

MacBooks support 2048x768 for either analog or digital; need a MacBook Pro for higher resolutions (2560x1024 analog and 3840x1200 digital). See the bottom of this page for a list of Macs and supported resolutions.

To get details on what the Dual Head adapter will do, use this tool on the Matrox site. It walks you through a short decision tree (analog or digital? laptop or desktop?) and you're there. For example, the MacBook drives a total of 2048x768 (2x 1024x768) with either DualHead Analog or Digital Edition.
