Is it ok to buy now, if I am not wanting an ultra portable? I was going to pick up a 15" or 17" MBP tomorrow, but saw rumors of a MBP update. Is this update supposed to only be the addition of the ultra portable?

No one knows, but I suspect the whole MBP line will be refreshed. I say wait two more days. Plus, if you're not interested in the new models, the old ones may be discounted.

I doubt the entire line will be moved to subnotebooks. Naturally nobody here can make any guarantees, but I'm betting not.

Good advice.

No matter what kind of MBP you are interested in, tomorrow's keynote will change the lineup, features, prices, etc. Wait one more day to decide.

That said, I definitely also agree with Chuck. There's no way the entire MBP line will go lite (ULV CPUs, no internal optical, integrated graphics, etc.). The rumored MB lite will be an addition to the current lineup.

Intel just released new chips with which Apple can update the entire MacBook Pro line any day they want to.

Another vote for "wait a day or so." It's not like asking you to wait until April or something-there is going to be something interesting in the keynote address (whether it's about MBPs or not), and holding off for a short time won't even be terribly irritating.

I'd like to see a lot of new things in the MBP lineup, but at the moment I'm using probably one of the last Core Duo (not C2D) MBPs that came off the line, and I'm still very happy with it. If I needed a replacement for it, I'd wait 24-48 hours to order because of Macworld, just to see what gets announced.

Better yet, how long before a Macbook sized laptop with a graphic card? If I wait much longer I might just have to build a PC desktop instead of 'upgrading' my old MBP to a Macbook with a decent card.... I DON"T want two computers, but upgrading this macbook pro doesn't make sense, I need a bigger HD, more RAM and a new screen (cracked...)

I think Apple's next reasonable update to the MBP would be integrating the multi-touch trackpad, but who knows whenever that's going to take place. I mean they added the 2.6Ghz bump & 200gb/7200rpm HDD options in the later half of '07, right? So they may/may not upgrade the MBP until then for '08.

Anyhow, whatever features they add to the MBP most likely won't be ground breaking; only slightly more bells & whistles. Marketing strategy...that's just my $.02.

But that Time Capsule, on the other hand, I'm pretty interested in how that will turn out. I like the idea of packaging WiFi & NAT in one device.

maybe apple will update some of their old products at the end of macworld. The macbooks and MBPs really need a refresh for more/cheaper RAM and HDs if nothing else.

I recon Apple will give it a month or so tempting people with the bleeding edge features on the MBA, and then bump the MB and MBP lines with the same stuff when the rush wears off.

I am in the market for a new lappy, and will wait until March or so for sure now.
