Imagine an alternate universe where Apple released the Macbook Air two years ago, and yesterday at Macworld they announced the standard Macbook? It would seem like the world’s biggest upgrade.
“We know that a lot of you have been frustrated by the fact that you need to haul around the optical drive accessory. That’s why the new Macbook has a BUILT IN OPTICAL DRIVE!”
“We know you’ve complained about the fact that there aren’t enough connections. That’s why we’ve DOUBLED the number of USB ports, and added firewire too! No more ethernet dongle - we’ve built that in, and upgraded it to gigabit!”
“You’ve all been complaining about the slow 80GB hard drive... and we hear you. We’ve more than TRIPLED the hard drive space, at 250GB! Plus, you can double the memory and expand it to 4GB!"
“Of course, we’ve added the latest, fastest Intel processors at 2.2GHz, and we’ve responded to your comments about the battery. Now it’s user replaceable! That’s right, you can buy an extra battery and change it yourself, WITHOUT going to the Apple store!”
“One more thing... the price. For all these new features, I bet you’d expect to pay a lot, right? Well we’ve cut the price by $700! Yes, the future is now. This is truly new, amazing technology.”
“All this, and it’s still only one inch thick!”
The crowd gives Steve a standing ovation.
