My 3+ year old 17" Powerbook G4 is slowly biting the dust. The latest and most severe problem is the total failure of the LCD screen. So I can now only use it with an external monitor. I'm looking to get a refurb 17" Macbook Pro and am considering replacing the hard drive with this. I've replaced the drive in my current Powerbook so I know it's not that difficult. As far as I can tell, this drive should be compatible. Can anyone prove otherwise?

Oh... I almost forgot. Is this a good time to buy? I've heard that there is a new model coming out soon with the ultra mega cool thingy and the super fast frangistat.

There's always a supercool new model in the wings that's rumored to be faster than anything else we've ever seen and will totally blow our minds... but if you need a new computer, you need a new computer...

That hard drive will work just fine. Interested in selling the broken 17" pb?

You never know about new models.... it does look like about the right time in the life cycle.

My question about timing was a lame attempt at wit. I'm generally of the mind it's always the wrong/right time to buy Apple products as you never really know when something new is coming.

At some point I will be looking to sell the 17" PB but I suppose this is the wrong forum for that. When the time comes I'll post something in the Marketplace.

Thanks for the confirmation on the HD. I figured it should work but wanted to get another opinion.
